THE FUTURE

L E V E L  U P

Our society is about to deal with another upcoming big problem if we don't act quickly. The number of active gamers worldwide went from 1.8 billion in 2014, to 2.3 billion in 2018, and it is expected the number of players will rise to more than 2,7 billion in 2021. Those numbers combined to the rapid development of video games, producers that want to make profit of their work and the lack of research about the actual addiction will certainly lead to an increase of risk of games becoming addicted. It's crucial we pay more attention to risk-taking individuals and at a large scale, our society. The more people addicted, the more it affects people around them, and if this issue really gets out of hand, it could even badly affect the next generations.

If gamers keep sitting behind a TV or a PC and abandon activities like sports and eat less in order to game, this could lead to health problems (to: HEALTH). Health problems means more patients to cure, and that would mean we eventually need more doctors. Now if we go on with the consequences, we end up with incredible economic problems while producers earn more and more money because of the increasement of the number of gamers.

Another issue is that people will isolate themselves, which will lead to a lack of communication skills; this will cause problems on literally every level.

We could also use games to help educate our society. This way our high-technology is useful. Although this doesn't mean we can prevent game addiction to spread over our world like a dangerous virus, it is always in our favour to improve our education system. Gamification is already becoming a popular technique to motivate learners. The theory behind this technique is that students may learn more by completing tests than they do when studying; they are being motivated by offering them social rewards after completing a tests. Research shows that this technique actually works. Now if we keep using it and improve the technology behind it, we will have successful results in the future.
